Q:Why sometimes I didn't get any search results
in a network with many computers online after I start
the LAN Search?
A:You'd better check whether or not you have
firewall software running on your network, and we suggest
that you stop the firewall before starting the LAN Search.
Q:I can't see the packets of other machines.
Why is this so?
A:In a switched network environment, LANView(or
any other packet analyzer) is limited to capturing broadcast
and multicast packets. However, most modern switches
support "port mirroring", which is a feature that allows
you to configure the switch to redirect the traffic
that occurs on some or all ports to a designated monitoring
port on the switch. By using this feature, you will
able to monitor the entire LAN segment. Please refer
to the documentation that comes with your switch for
information on availability of this feature and configuration
instructions.
Q:Why the LAN Search and the Packet Monitor
didn't work at all or didn't work properly on the WinXP
platform?
A:Check the local IP address (displayed in the
upper left of this program). If it is 127.0.0.1, you
should check whether the network works properly or not,
at most time, the adapter is disconnected or you didn't
configure the IP address properly.
Q:Why I can run only one instance of LANView
at one computer?
A:To avoid Winsock API conflicts, we design that
only one instance exists on one computer.
Q:Why I didn't get any information (such as
hostnames, group names) from some IP address?
A:They maybe hosts running with other OS(such
as UNIX hosts).
Q:Why LANView capture packets are less than
fact packets through network as network with high trffic?
A:When capturing data from a large and busy network
segment, you should keep in mind that processing thousands
of packets per second may considerably increase the
CPU usage and make the application less responsive.
Some factors are able to improve the program's performance,
example fast CPU(Pentium III recommended),128M RAM or
higher,Using rules to filter out unnecessary traffic.
Q:Registry information was successfully show,
But software still unregistraion.
A: As registration progress need to write registry
of system, we are recommend you register LANView with
administrator user.
Q:LANView does not work on my system. What should
I do?
A:Check if the networking on your system is properly
installed. If everything looks fine but LANView still
does not work, please send an e-mail with the exact
description of the problem and the general info on your
system: version, any updates of the operating system
installed, type of network connection, etc.
Q:I have a firewall, but the scan shows my UDP ports are open. Why?
A:Normally, a closed UDP port responds to an incoming packet by returning an "ICMP unreachable" message. Port scanners depend on this message to list the port as "closed". Some firewall programs "absorb" the UPD packet before it ever reaches the UPD port and an "ICMP unreachable" message is not sent. In a case like this the scanner is fooled and thinks the port is "open", when it actually may be closed.
